Like coffee? Like ice cream? Like booze? Then here’s the PERFECT recipe to bring that trifecta together for a wickedly delicious Boozy Iced Coffee Float (Spiked Affogato Float) with homemade coffee liqueur and creamy vanilla ice cream popsicles!
Alright guys, it’s the home stretch before we turn the corner and it officially becomes summer. Weather-wise, we are already there here in mid-Missouri though. Winter this year was pretty mild for us, so I’m not too eager to embrace summer yet.
Today’s summer recipe however, brings together some of my absolute favorite things about the season, and some of my absolute favorite things, period. It’s my solution to all those hot and muggy days, my middle finger to summer, if you will.
If you read my blog, you know how I love coffee. 🙂 From espresso shortbread cookies, coffee eclairs, coffee doughnuts and coffee pancakes to coffee layer cake, coffee scones, and coffee creme caramel (coffee flan), I’ve incorporated coffee flavor in pretty much everything I can.
As summer rolls around, my coffee generally becomes increasingly colder. So I make sure to keep a good stock of my Cold Brew Coffee (to make iced coffee) in the fridge at all times.
So I like coffee, I like ice cream, and I like booze. And it’s summer. Those are all the ingredients you need for something truly magical, and that’s exactly what this Boozy Iced Coffee Float with Homemade Coffee Liqueur is! 🙂
What’s better than a cold coffee as a pick-me-up on a hot summer afternoon? A coffee spiked with homemade coffee liqueur is what! What’s even better than that? A boozy iced coffee float made with homemade coffee liqueur! 🙂
So how did I make this awesome homemade coffee liqueur? Here’s a shout out to UncommonGoods who made it all possible with this nifty homemade coffee liqueur kit.
I’ve been browsing their products online for ages now, and I’m really excited to have been able to put this kit to the test with this iced coffee float recipe!

Speaking of parties… do you know what I always look forward to at most dinner parties? The drink at the end to unwind, the party nightcap, so to speak. And this boozy iced coffee float is my version of an upgraded nightcap. A combo of liqueur and dessert, that’s the perfect ending to any party. The perfect ending to any day for that matter. I’ve always had a habit of pouring a shot of liqueur over my ice cream and that’s how I got the idea for this iced coffee float made with this homemade coffee liqueur (Java Jive).
Making homemade coffee liqueur from Hoochfusion’s Java Jive Kit is unbelievably easy! The kit includes the infusion flavours – all organic, high quality ingredients in a vial, and all you need are a mason jar and the rum.
I did maintain the infusion for longer than the time stated, just to increase the coffee flavour, and then strained it when I was happy with the taste. The result was amazing! It packs a good espresso punch, both taste-wise and aroma-wise! It smells JUST like Kahlua, but tastes less sweet – so you could add a little simple syrup to sweeten it up, if you wanted to. I liked it just the way it was, however.
I love all the flavours that come through in this liqueur. The vanilla and coffee flavours are the most dominant, but you also get a really nice hint and warmth of spice as you drink it.
This Boozy Iced Coffee Float is easy to assemble. The main components of this drink are,
- A shot of Java Jive (homemade coffee liqueur, prepared using the kit),
- A shot of fresh espresso (or you can use a shot of cold brew coffee instead),
- A generous serving of vanilla ice cream (I used homemade vanilla ice cream popsicles!),
- And then top it up with soda.
It’s like a Boozy Affogato Float! Not too sweet, creamy, fizzy, with a substantial coffee and booze punch!

Boozy Iced Coffee Float with Homemade Coffee Liqueur
Ingredients:
Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream Popsicles (makes 8)
- 1 cup of full cream milk or half and half
- ½ cup sugar
- 3 egg yolks
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tbsp corn starch
- 1 cup of whipping cream
Boozy Iced Coffee Float (for 1)
- 1 shot of espresso I used my Moka pot, but you can substitute it with a shot of cold brew coffee or double strength brewed coffee
- 1 shot of your favorite coffee liqueur I made my own using Java Jive
- Simple syrup optional
- Soda to top
Instructions:
Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream Popsicles
- Dissolve the corn flour in the milk.
- Place the sugar, yolks, vanilla and salt in a saucepan. Whisk well to combine (especially the yolks) and then add the milk and whisk again.
- Heat the milk mix over medium heat, while whisking frequently until the mix thickens (it should be thick enough to coat the back of a spoon and leave a clear trail if you run your finger across it). Leave it to cool down completely (to room temp or chilled in the fridge).
- Whisk the whipping cream in a cold bowl until you form stiff peaks. Add this whipped cream into the cooled custard and fold to combine.
- Pour the mix into eight, 3 oz popsicle molds and let them freeze overnight.
Boozy Iced Coffee Float
- Place a shot of coffee liqueur and a vanilla ice cream popsicle in a glass. Add a shot of espresso and top it with some soda.
- Taste and add simple syrup IF desired (or add some chocolate syrup for a more decadent treat!). Enjoy!
