Juicy, delicious, Asian-spiced Grilled Shrimp Appetizers with sweet mangoes and crackers are easy, flavorful and perfect for summer entertainment!

Grilled shrimp appetizers are perfect for summer entertainment

Summer becomes a whole new ball game when you fire up that grill, don’t you think? 🙂 I feel like summer entertainment begins and ends at the grill and the possibilities are endless and delicious!

From BBQ pork ribs (baby back ribs) to Thai chicken skewers (chicken kebabs), LA galbi (Korean BBQ short ribs) and more, there are so many options.

Which is why I got this amazing appetizer idea for you guys today, that’ll knock your socks off with how easy and unbelievably tasty is it!

And even if you live on the other side of the world and you just stored away your grill for the next 6 months – no worries, these Mango and Grilled Shrimp Appetizers are just as easy on a regular frying pan or grill pan on the stove.

After all, it ain’t a party for you guys in Down Under until you throw some shrimp on the barbie, amiright? 🙂

Why I love this appetizer idea

And nothing screams summer louder than mangoes and grilled shrimp. 🙂 Shrimp (or prawns) soaks up flavor readily and cooks quickly.

And since these grilled shrimp appetizers are also very easy to prepare, they are perfect for crowds, parties and summer gatherings!

Combining all the marinade ingredients with raw shrimp in a big glass bowl to marinate the shrimp.

And to make it an easy and fresh appetizer idea, I’m using the mango and grilled shrimp as a flavorful topping on crackers. We LOVE TRISCUIT crackers around these parts, and these were truly the perfect pairing!

These crackers are delicious on their own, but even better dressed up as sweet or savory party starter recipes.

My favorite way to eat them as a snack is with hummus or cream cheese. But then, it’s even special when I top them with something grilled. Perfect as a snack, appetizer or if you’re like me, you could eat enough for a meal!

TRISCUIT crackers are the perfect canvas for so many delicious toppings!

How to make these grilled shrimp appetizers

These Asian spiced, grilled shrimps are briefly marinated in Ketjap Manis (a sweet soy sauce), cayenne pepper, garlic and coriander powder and then grilled to perfection for some juicy and wickedly delicious shrimp!

And then all you have to do is take your favorite cracker, spread a generous amount of hummus and top it with juicy, flavorful shrimp and thinly cut slices of fresh, sweet mango and chopped herbs.

The flavors here are truly phenomenal, they are easy to make, easy to present and look impressive, and you’ve got yourself some fancy appetizers that are perfect for summer entertainment.

Recipe notes

A note on the shrimp (prawns) – my husband and I LOVE eating the whole shrimp – tails and all! 🙂 That’s how we eat everything from shrimp curry to shrimp rice bowls, shrimp rice noodles, Szechuan salt and pepper shrimp etc.

As you grill the shrimp, the tails crisp up nicely. We grew up eating shrimp with tail on, as did everyone else we knew in that part of the world, but if you don’t like it, simply remove the tails before marinating the shrimp.

These juicy, delicious, Asian-spiced Grilled Shrimp Appetizers with sweet mangoes and crackers are an easy and flavorful appetizer idea! Perfect for summer entertainment, these are always a crowd favorite.

US based cup, teaspoon, tablespoon measurements. Weight‌ ‌measurements‌ ‌are‌ ‌recommended‌ ‌for‌ ‌accurate‌ ‌results whenever available.

Makes: 40 appetizers

Ingredients:
 

Grilled Shrimps
  • 1 lb raw medium shrimps cleaned and de-veined with tail on or off (about 40+ shrimps)
  • 1 tbsp Ketjap Manis
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper or halve it for a less spicy version
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tsp brown sugar
  • Generous pinch of salt
  • 4 tbsp chopped cilantro
Mango and Grilled Shrimp Appetizers
  • 1 cup Hummus spread of your choice
  • 1 mango peeled, and flesh sliced thinly
  • 40 Bite sized Crackers like triscuit, ritz or water crackers

Instructions:
 

Grilled Shrimps
  • Combine all the ingredients, mix and let it marinate for a few minutes (upto 1 hour).
  • Preheat grill to medium high. Or you can use a nonstick pan or a grill pan as well.
  • Oil the cooking surface generously. When the grill is hot, place the shrimps on it. Cook the shrimps for about 30 seconds per side until cooked through and there’s good caramelization on them.
  • Transfer cooked shrimps to a plate with slices of lemons to serve.
Mango and Grilled Shrimp Appetizers
  • Apply a generous amount of hummus on a TRISCUIT cracker.
  • Place a grilled shrimp on top, followed by a slice of mango.
  • Sprinkle crushed chilli flakes and chopped cilantro on top (optional).

    I have made this recipe quite a bit for a beginning appetizer for my gourmet meals. The first time I made this I couldn’t find Ketjap Manis so I made it from scratch. I realized it tastes very much like hoisin sauce so I use that as the substitute for Ketjap Manis. I also make a homemade lavish cracker for this recipe but the triscuit works great! This is such a awesome recipe! Thank you!
