Gorgeous, refreshing and delicious – this Mint Kiwi Margarita uses kiwi fruit juice as the base, and is flavored with mint and lime salt. Perfect for summer parties, BBQs, cocktail parties etc. I’ve also provided tips on making this ahead of time and for a crowd.
Cinco de Mayo may have come and gone, but it’ll always be the right time for a margarita for me! 🙂 Continuing my margarita series after the smoked margarita sour and the frozen mango margarita with Tajin, here’s another great twist on a classic margarita – Mint Kiwi Margarita!
Today’s margarita is made with one of my favorite fruits – Kiwi! This green beauty is so refreshing, and I may or may not have been tipsy the whole time I was photographing this recipe. 🙂
I initially wanted to make this mint kiwi margarita with pureed kiwi fruit. But I didn’t particularly like having an entire margarita made with chunky kiwi fruit pulp. So instead, I made kiwi fruit juice and used that as the base of this kiwi fruit margarita.
You can make kiwi fruit juice at home by,
- Either blending the peeled kiwi fruit, and then separating the pulp using a sieve or a nut milk bag, OR
- Using a juicer to juice your peeled kiwi fruits to extract the juice.
You should get roughly about 1/2 cup of kiwi fruit juice from 5 kiwi fruits. In addition to using the kiwi fruit juice as the base, I also add a slice of kiwi fruit to the margarita. I muddle the slice of kiwi fruit with mint to release a subtle mint flavor AND add an additional kiwi flavor profile with the texture of the kiwi fruit. But you can leave out the kiwi fruit slice if you prefer.
This kiwi fruit margarita is perfect for summer parties, BBQs, cocktail parties, birthday parties (for adults of course), Taco nights etc. It’s all the flavor of a classic margarita, plus the fruity deliciousness of kiwi fruit and the freshness of mint. The lime salt around the rim of your glass gives it that extra touch of lime flavor to really seal the deal! 🙂
Here are a few tips in case you’d like to make a big batch of this mint kiwi margarita ahead of time for parties.
- Prepare the lime salt ahead of time. You can buy lime salt as well, but it’s simple and cheaper to make your own.
- Prepare the lime juice and kiwi fruit juice ahead of time.
- Mix the entire cocktail as a punch, the day before you need it, and keep it in the fridge – WITHOUT the mint. The mint can be added on the day of.
Here is the ratio for the ingredients to make a punch mint kiwi margarita for 8 servings.
- 1 cup of lime juice,
- 1 cup of agave (or simple syrup),
- 1 cup of cointreau,
- 2 cups kiwi fruit juice,
- 2 cups tequila,
- 16 leaves of mint, bruised and mixed in, on the day that you will be serving this mint kiwi margarita,
- and optionally – two kiwi fruits, pureed and added to the punch (I do this mostly because I love the look of the black seeds in the drink!).
